On Friday 24th October 2025 we had a gathering to memorialise our dear friend and colleague John Lawrence.
This was held at Headlands Adventure Centre at Blashford near Ringwood. Headlands is a site providing camping and outdoor pursuit facilities for children and young people.
John sadly passed away back in July.
He had been associated with G Farwell Limited since 1968 rising to be General Manager and then nearing retirement he took a step back to assist our Contracts team. He was an invaluable source of support and leadership for George Farwell, our founder and chairman, as well as a mentor and friend to many a member of staff, and a knowledgeable and reliable contact for our customers.
As John had been connected with the Headlands Centre for some years (assisting with maintenance and clearance work, often on his own time) his friend at the Centre, Mike Johnson, was asked if a memorial tree could be planted on the site.
With the consent of John’s wife Elaine, a plaque was commissioned, and a beautiful copper beech was donated by Bashley Plant Centre – many thanks to Paul Follett for your generous gesture.
Along with Elaine, John’s sister Wendy, George Farwell, the Directors and Management of G Farwell Limited, the tree was planted and dedicated to John’s memory.
He is sorely missed by us all, his kindness and generosity of spirit will long be remembered by those of us lucky enough to have known him.
